With the second half of the Northumbria Squash Leagues under way, a quick look at the performances of all the Tynemouth teams through to January 2015.
Undefeated, and sitting atop of the Premier Division, the First Team have had an incredible start to the season, with a brilliant 11-0 winning record, and 26 point lead over 2nd place Northern.
Also in the Premier Division, the Second Team are fighting hard in what has been a tough debut season in the top league, but gaining valuable experience for a young top 3 in the order.
The Third Team find themselves top of Division 3 at the turn of the year, with a record of 8-1, and face a straight race to the finish with a young Jesmond team. With the match-up set for the final game of the season, it could be a thrilling showdown to decide the title.
In Division 5, the Fourth Team also currently occupy the top position, with 9 wins and only 1 loss. With 8 wins in a row, and some impressive juniors making the leap to team squash look easy, it should prove to be a bright and exciting second half to the season for them.
In the Ladies leagues, the Ladies Firsts, much like their male counterparts , find themselves top of Division 1, and undefeated after another sterling first half of the campaign. With 7 wins out of 7, and incredibly only dropping 4 games throughout the whole team during that period, they have proved too strong for the rest of the division so far this season.
The Ladies Seconds are also battling hard in the top league, where they currently sit in 5th place, after playing 6 games.
In the Ladies 2nd Division, the Ladies Third team are chasing down league leaders Northern at the turn of the year, where they are currently in second place with a record of 4 wins and a sole defeat.
The other Tynemouth affiliated teams are also performing well, with Scotezzi 7 points clear at the top, having played one game more than Ashington, in a tight Division 4. With the top 4 teams separated by only 14 points, the title race is sure to go down to the wire.
In division 5, the Socials are locked in a battle with Dunston & Concordia for 2nd place, while in pursuit of the league leaders, club mates, Tynemouth 4ths. They currently occupy 4th place, a single point behind both 2nd & 3rd, with a game in hand.
Sean Millington (1st Team) – 9 wins
Glenn Ward (1st Team) – 9 wins
Matty Walsh (4th Team) – 8 wins
Steve Cubbins (Socials) – 5 wins
So, after a fantastic start to the season for all the Tynemouth teams, lets hope for an equally successful second half of the campaign, and perhaps one or two title wins for the club to celebrate come Presentation night.
