Club Champs Day Four

Day Four  saw virtually all the semi-finalists decided at the Club Champs headed into the Friday Doubles Break.
‘A’ top seed Jon Evans duly disposed of 1,000 to one outsider Scubbs, whose few points earned were equally split between his trademark return of serve bamboozler and dazzling his illustrious opponent with his garish kit selection.
“I’d never seen a return of serve like that,” admitted the Welsh Wizard, “but apart from that one shot he’s utterly crap so it was a comfortable win in the end.”
Evans now faces Milly junior, who sealed his semi-final place two days ago but was in the club late last night doing solo practice. “I watched John today and I think I spotted a couple of vulnerabilities,” said Sean, “so I’m working on my game plan which I’m pretty confident will work on Saturday.
“That. and the fact that he’s almost a pensioner so surely I can outlast the old bugger,” added the fast-rising 20-year-old second teamer and trainee barman.
SP_3245The other semi-final will be between Jamie ‘splits’ Todd and Peter ‘I’ve paid’ Fargher.
After disposing of O55 favourite John Thompson young Toddy was heard complaining that his shoes don’t last any time at all. “Hardly surprising,” said Thompson, “when you play most of your shots sliding in at at 90 degrees with your feet on opposite sides of the court!”
SP_3249Fargher’s progress to the semis was smooth enough as he beat a “ridiculously unfit” Eric Mok [his words, Eric]. The biggest threat to Farghar’s progression was when he was collared in the warmup by Lou Rottweiler Robertson for his entry fee. Needless to say a terrified Fargher paid up there and then.Match of the day was the late-night Guy Enonia v Darren Lockwood Z event 56th/57th playoff, a match which featured at least two orthodox shots, with Guy finally running out the winner.

The first final was played too, as twins Emma and Amy Rowell battled it out for the Ladies’ B title. The only difference between the two is that one is left and the other right-handed, and it was  just as close in the match with Amy winning 15/14 in the fifth!
Friday is doubles night, then it’s back to singles action at the weekend …
